The group began with Tim Pagnotta, who hooked up with bassist Airin Older and the bands first drummer Ben Davis at City College in Santa Barbara. Sugarcult soon played their first gig supporting Superdrag at a small local club. Attending this gig happened to be scenester, Marko 72 (whod previously played in bands like The Ataris, Swingin Utters and Nerf Herder alongside running his own record label, hosting a weekly radio show and writing for a weekly tabloid; a busy boy!). Tim and Marko found their loved the same bands, from Elvis Costello to Green Day, and before long Marko was playing guitar in the band.

They released Eleven and Wrap Me Up In Plastic on Markos label, Cooler Records, in consecutive years before being signed by Bad Religion member and Epitaph owner Brett Gueritz himself, and releasing 2003s Start Static. They made an impact with this one and stand-out track Bouncing Off The Walls was even featured on the Original Soundtrack of Van Wilder: Party Liason. It gained them some exposure and after two years on the Warped Tour, Sugarcult broadened their horizons and headed to Europe and Japan where their fanbase was quickly building.

Not much was said about the sudden absence of Ben Davis when they arrived for the international Start Static tour and new addition Kenny Livingston appeared behind the drum kit. Soon after, though, a statement was made by the band explaining that Ben had been having a few problems and the band had decided it would be better if they continued without him. It was harsh for fans, it was difficult not knowing exactly what happened but weve grown to love Kenny.

He is one of the reasons why Palm Trees and Power Lines has been such a success after its recent release. Kenny bought a whole new style and flavour to the band with drumming talents that cannot be ignored. Currently beginning their third run of the Warped Tour, Sugarcult are gonna be causing havoc all over the States. Keep an eye on these, I think they deserve to be big.
